This Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card will always hold a special place in my wallet. It was the very first credit card I opened with an annual fee more than $99. š«£ Taking on a big annual fee felt scaryā¦I used to avoid annual fees entirely. Enter: award travel.
Earning credit card points for award travel gave me a complete perspective shift when it came to annual fees. And this card opened up so many travel opportunities that I never thought possible!
So letās break down everything you need to know about this card so you can decide if it deserves a spot in your wallet (spoiler alert ā¼ļø it probably does!). šš¼
Welcome offer
Points = nearly free travel. āļøWhen you open my favorite premium travel rewards card, you can earn 75,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 on purchases on the card in the first 3 months.
Weāre talking at least$750 towards travel. Thatās a huge perk right out the gate, and one easy way to offset the cost of the $395 annual fee.

Perks I š«¶š¼
Premium credit cards mean premium travel benefits. And this card packs some of my favorite *easy to use* perks that donāt feel like a chore to manage every year.
Travel perks youāll get with the Venture X:
š¤ $300 annual travel credit for travel booked in the Capital One travel portal
š 10,000 anniversary bonus miles on each card member anniversary
š«Up to $120 credit for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry (renews every 4 years)
š½ļø Enjoy access to 1,800+ lounges worldwide, including Capital One Lounge locations and Priority Pass⢠lounges, after enrollment.
āļøTravel insurance and protections
ā No foreign transaction fees
šHertz Presidentās Circle status
*Upon enrollment, accessible through the Capital One website or mobile app, eligible cardholders will remain at upgraded status level through December 31, 2024. Please note, enrolling through the normal Hertz Gold Plus Rewards enrollment process (e.g. at Hertz.com) will not automatically detect a cardholder as being eligible for the program and cardholders will not be automatically upgraded to the applicable status tier. Additional terms apply.
Earning rates with the Venture X:
š 2x on all purchases
š» 10x on hotels and rental cars booked in the Capital One travel portal and 5x on flights and vacation rentals
That 2x on everything is one of the many reasons I keep this card year after year. This is what I call a ācatch-all cardā that I swipe when Iām making purchases that donāt fit into one of the other nice and neat earning categories (like groceries, gas, travel, etc.).
Anybody fancy earning 2x on all those Costco purchases? šHow it all adds up
In your first year alone, this card more than pays for itself. Letās do the math:
-Weāve got $750 in value (MINIMUM) from that welcome offer.
-The $300 annual travel credit (which renews on each card member anniversary) is a flat $300 in value toward any travel purchase.
-The $120 Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credit can be used for yourself, a friend, or family member!
-And for each year after, the 10,000 anniversary miles (which also come on your card member anniversary), are worth at least $100 when used in the Capital One travel portal (and even more when transferred to airline or hotel transfer partners āļøšØ).
Thatās already $1,270 in value from that annual fee! And thatās not even including any lounge access perks you take advantage ofā¦.you know I love that we can avoid pricey airport food when we travel!
š„Travel credit tip: my favorite way to use that annual $300 travel credit is for booking my rental cars for our trips. Itās so hard to find good deals on rental cars, and thereās no way to really use points for that cost, so this is a great way to offset that travel expense!
Bottom line
If youāre ready to dip your toes into the world of premium credit cards, the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card is a great place to start. With valuable perks, easy to manage benefits, and flexible rewards, this card is a no-brainer!
