Earning rates
Earn 4 points per dollar spent in two of the following categories where you spend the most per calendar year:
U.S. gas stations
U.S. restaurants (including takeout and delivery)
Advertising in select media from U.S. media providers
Transit
U.S. electronic goods retailers and software and cloud system providers
U.S. wireless telephone services
Earn 3 points per dollar spent on flights and prepaid hotel bookings made through Amex Travel
Earn 1 point per dollar spent on all other purchases
For me, the 4x per dollar on those top two categories is one of the best perks of this card. I can easily maximize this spending opportunity with purchases at gas stations and restaurants! ⛽️🛒
Lifetime language
Many American Express cards have “lifetime language” on their cards, meaning that you are only eligible to earn the welcome offer on the card once per lifetime. But here’s a few key things know:
🌟You CAN find applications that do not included lifetime language, which means you have a better chance of earning the welcome offer on that card a second time.
📆“Lifetime” generally means about seven years as many data points have shown for those who have been able to eventually earn the welcome offer on a card the second time.
Card eligibility and application tips
When applying for an American Express credit card, they make it very easy to determine if you are eligible for the welcome offer on the card BEFORE completing the application.
You are able to fill out the application, submit for a preliminary review, and within a few seconds you will have a pop up to let you know if you are not eligible for the welcome offer on that card. At that time, you can opt to cancel the application with no hard credit pull! 👏🏻
Earning Membership Rewards®
The best perk of this card is the valuable rewards that you rack up with each swipe. And these Membership Rewards points can be used SO many ways.
Whether you’re looking to book travel in the bank travel portal, or maximize your points value by transferring out to a travel partner, these are definitely points you want to be earning!
