If Alaska is on your bucket list, points and miles can take you there for a fraction of the cost! I recently booked our first trip to Alaska for the fall and I can’t wait to finally experience the beauty of this state first hand, and hopefully see the Northern Lights!

From steeply discounted flights, to hotels for $0 out of pocket, let’s walk through some ways you can book that snowy getaway. ✈️❄️

Flights to Alaska

Some airlines to consider for your trip to Alaska are American Airlines, United, Delta, Southwest, and (my top choice!), Alaska Airlines.

🔎When beginning your search, you can either go directly to the airline’s website, or do a preliminary search on a site like Roame.travel or seats.aero.

Alaska Airlines: my top choice!

Alaska Airlines is part of the Atmos Rewards loyalty program (along with Hawaiian Airlines). While they obviously have the most options to Alaska (it’s in the name 😉), they also price their flights based on an award chart, which means you can find some impressive deals on award bookings!

This is how we are flying to Alaska, and we paid just 12,500 miles per person, per way! And you can’t beat those low taxes. 👏🏻

American Airlines: good option for partner deals if you don’t have Atmos Rewards

American Airlines has routes to Anchorage, so this can be a great option if you have AA miles or Citi ThankYou Points that you can transfer over. Keep in mind that you will also find Alaska Airlines routes bookable through American (and vice versa), so that will give you more options for additional cities you can fly in and out of.

Southwest Airlines: best for Companion Pass holders

Southwest is new to Alaska, launching its first flights in May of 2026! This is a great option for Southwest enthusiasts or those looking to cut down the cost of their flights by using their Companion Pass.

Delta Airlines: honorable mention for Delta lovers

This one is for the Delta loyalists! It would not be my first recommendation, as rates can be pretty high to Alaska, but it’s worth a mention if you have a big stash of Delta miles you’re looking to burn.

Hotels in Alaska

When it comes to booking hotels in Alaska on points, you’ll have a small selection of options from a few of our favorite hotel chains.

Hyatt

*The hotel we booked for stay in Anchorage.

Marriott

*All of these options would be a great use of any Marriott 50k free night rewards you might have!

IHG

Hilton

Popular cities to visit

Most often, visitors will fly into or out of Anchorage on their journey to Alaska, so it’s worth exploring for a night or two!

Fairbanks is a very popular destination for those hoping to catch the Northern lights in person. 🤩

If you’re looking for some coastal beauty, Juneau, Ketchikan, and Sitka offer gorgeous coastline and close proximity to national parks!

Bottom line

If a trip to Alaska has been on your bucket list, now is a great time to start earning the points you need to book that trip! With multiple flight options through popular US airlines, hotel locations from the most popular loyalty programs, and dozens of ways to earn the points you’ll need, this is a great destination for all types of travelers!
