A Review of Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres

Looking for an adults only all-inclusive, beachy escape?

🏖️I have just the place for you!

My husband and I recently visited Secrets Playa Blanca to celebrate our anniversary, and it did not disappoint. It provided luxury and everything you would expect out of an all-inclusive resort right on the beach. 🤩

And the best part? We paid $0 out of pocket thanks to credit card points!

Location

📍Secrets Playa Blanca is located in Isla Mujeres, Mexico, near Cancún.

The resort is about a 50-60 minute drive from the Cancún International Airport. For our transportation to and from the airport, I booked a private roundtrip shuttle for 2 on USA Transfers through Viator for $139. Great service for the price and we were happy that we booked a private shuttle and didn’t have to wait at the airport for other guests.

Booking

This Hyatt property is a category E on the all-inclusive award chart. Current room rates are:

Lowest: 35,000

Low: 45,000

Moderate: 55,000

Upper: 65,000

Top: 75,000

When I booked this property in March of 2025, Hyatt still had their old award chart in place, so I paid for four standard nights. In total, I paid 140,000 Hyatt points and $0. 👏🏻

The points rate covers two adults in the room, so this included all of our food, drinks, amenities, and select activities!

Rooms

The resort just opened in 2024, so the rooms had that fresh and new feeling. 😌 Our room was a standard king bed room with a tropical view.

When we walked in, we immediately noticed the natural wood tones and little unique touches that made this room feel inviting and comfortable. We had a beach bag left on our bed to use during our stay and take home with us afterward.

The balcony was spacious and had enough room for a small couch and a chair with a table. This was the perfect spot to enjoy our morning coffee from the coffee shop right next door (more on that later!). 👌🏼☕️

🛁The bathroom was LUXURIOUS. A huge soaking tub with bath salts provided, an amazing rain shower, and lots of amenities to cover anything you might have forgotten to pack.

In the room was also a coffee pot and Nespresso pod, reusable water bottles to refill around the resort, and mini bar with snacks, drinks, water, and sodas. All included, of course!

Preferred Club

This was a game-changer…

We had applied a Club Access Award to our booking, so this meant that we had access to the Preferred Club and other perks during our stay. And it was honestly the best! We had access to:

The Preferred Club Lounge and bar

Preferred Club guests had access to a separate area of the resort with a full service bar, seating areas, and a lounge. The lounge had some of our favorite light bites that we found throughout the property! 😋 They had food that rotted throughout the day for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and there was always a sweet treat, fruit, drinks, and coffee as well.

The Preferred Club pool

Within that same area was the Preferred pool. This was a much needed quiet escape from the busier pool and resort areas. Plenty of seating (you know how much we all hate the lounge chair battle at resorts 🤪🙅🏻‍♀️), multiple spas, and free cabana areas if you prefer to stay out of the sun.

Breakfast at Seaside Grill

As a Preferred Club guest, you also had an additional breakfast option at the property (the only other spot for breakfast was at the buffet). We were able to sit and have table service at Seaside Grill, and the food was SO GOOD. If you go, don’t miss the chilaquiles. 🤤

Spa treatment

Preferred guests also received one free hydrotherapy appointment. We made reservations for the treatment ahead of time, and we spent one afternoon at the spa for the free treatment. It was something I would not have paid for, but I’ll take free!

Pools and amenities

Let's dive into the pools...(see what I did there? 😉)

The main pool was located right on the water, the perfect mix of ocean air calm pool water to float in. 👌🏼 There was a spa located right next to the pool toward the sand, and a huge swim-up bar (this is where most of the excitement was every day!).

☀️Now this is the hidden gem.

The lagoon pool. Nestled toward the back of the property, the lagoon pool weaved through trees and quiet areas, had plenty of shade, and was so peaceful. There were cabanas for rent with lounge chairs and hammocks, but you could also find areas with free lounge chairs.

We sat here for hours on our last day (hiding from the sun 😎), reading, and relaxing before our spa treatment.

Water refill stations

💦You could also find water refilling stations around the property for your reusable water bottles. The Preferred Club area also had infused water out every day, so we loved going there for our refills!

The Spa

Secrets Spa was located at the back of the property and had a full service spa. This is where we went for our free hydrotherapy treatment. We opted not to book any additional treatments on this trip, but it was nice to be able to go back and see the beautiful spa area!

Dining

I don’t know about you…but food is a pretty important consideration when booking an all-inclusive resort. 🍽️🍹Now don’t get me wrong, some things we ate were a miss, but most of it was a big WIN!

With 9 restaurants on site, all included in your room rate, you can easily try something new every day. And that’s what we did!

Restaurants we tried ⬇️

El Patio:

Guacamole made at your table. Fajitas with fresh tortillas. Need I say more? This restaurant was only open for dinner, so we went there the night we arrived. I would say it was a solid 7/10 (we were hoping for a bit more to the fajitas, but the guacamole was the highlight!).

Market Cafe:

HUGE buffet with cuisines from all over the world. A staple at all-inclusive resorts like this! This was the only breakfast restaurant unless you had club access. It was also open for lunch.

Coco Cafe

My faaavvvv 😍☕️

This was a 24-hour coffee shop on property (conveniently located right outside our room…kismet). They served hot and cold coffee, desserts, gelato, pastries, and light bites and sandwiches throughout the day.

Seaside Grill

This restaurant was open all day long. It served breakfast for Preferred guests, it had lunch items from a combined menu with Barefoot Grill next door, and it was open for dinner to everyone. Breakfast here was a 9/10 every time! We gave dinner an 8/10.

Preferred guest breakfast at Seaside Grill

Lunch at Barefoot Grill: burger 👎🏼 quesadilla 👌🏼

Dinner a Seaside Grill

Portifino

This was the Italian restaurant at the resort. You’ll find plenty of pasta dishes, classic Italian entrees, and you can’t miss the tiramisu! Dinner here was a 7/10 (I make fresh pasta at home regularly so I’m a bit of a pasta snob now 😆).

Himitsu

Our favorite dinner by far. 🥢 If you want to go for the full Teppanyaki experiences (which I highly recommend), make sure to make reservations with the concierge when you check-in for your stay. 10/10 for this one!

Other restaurants we didn’t visit were Bordeaux (classic French cuisine) and Oceana (fresh seafood).

Activities

There was no shortage of things to do while you were on property. You’ll never want to leave! We, in fact, never left. 🙃 And there truly felt like there was something for everyone and all interests. From crafting opportunities, to workout classes, and even mixology lesson!

Mexico night

This was the biggest event during our time at the resort! They set up a huge celebration of Mexican heritage right along the beach. There was a craft area with local vendors, TONS of food stations set up with every type of Mexican cuisine and dessert you can imagine, and they ended with a great show.

Desires Music Lounge and Sports Bar

This one is pretty self-explanatory! There was a great sports bar tucked away in one of the back corners of the property. You could find a full bar, pool tables, sporting events on TV, and they hosted various events there like karaoke night.

Rendezvous bar

This bar was the place to be in the evenings! A beautiful open air bar, comfortable couches and swings, and nightly entertainment. They even hosted free activities here like painting class, bracelet making, or magic shows.

Overall thoughts

Secrets Playa Blanca exceeded our expectations. ☀️🌴

It was a fantastic four days of beautiful pools, great food, exceptional service, and an unreal value for our points. We saved over $3,400 on this resort booking by paying with points, and it’s one I would happily go back to!
