The Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach is my go to beach getaway. ☀️🏝️
Keep reading to find out what I love about this resort, how you can book it for $0 with Hyatt points, and all my top recommendations for things to do while you’re there!
Location and booking
We visit the Huntington and Newport Beach area every single year. I grew up going to this beach when I was a kid and now we roadtrip out to California at least once a year to visit our favorite beaches! There is so much to see and do in the area so it makes for the perfect summer getaway to relax and soak up some sun.
The Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach is located right on the coast in Huntington Beach, California. ✈️ An easy 20 minute drive from John Wayne Airport (SNA) or about 35 minutes from Long Beach Airport (LGB).
🏨It is a Category 6 hotel so a standard night will cost 25,000 Hyatt points. Off-peak will cost 21,000 points per night and peak nights cost 29,000 points per night.
My favorite way to earn Hyatt points is by transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Hyatt. And luckily there are plenty of card options to earn the valuable points for Hyatt!
When staying at this property, you can opt to either use public parking across the street by the beach, or you can valet park your vehicle for $60. If you are a Hyatt Globalist, this parking fee would be waived for you.
Amenities
There is so much to do at and around the resort, and something for everyone!
They have two pool areas on the property: one larger main pool (that you see below) and another pool area with slides and is perfect for families with young children. I love that each pool area is fully stocked with plenty of towels and even free sunscreen! You’ll even find an adults only spa which makes for a great escape from the more lively pool areas.
You can also order food and drinks and have them delivered to you at the pool. My daughter and I loved ordering sodas, relaxing, and soaking up some sun by the pool with a beachfront view. 🤩
🚲 They also had bike rentals on the property, which was super convenient since there are a ton of great biking paths in the area! As a guest, you could rent two bikes for $55 for a 4 hour rental.
Beach access
One thing I love about this resort is how easy it is to access the beach! They have their own bridge that crosses from the resort and over the road directly to the beach.
🏖️Guests can even pick up complimentary rentals at the end of the bridge that they can take down to the beach. You can find beach chairs, towels, umbrellas, and even sand toys!
Dining
If you don’t feel like venturing out too far, there are quite a few food options on property.
Our favorite restaurant there was the Watertable. This is where we went to have breakfast each morning, and this is where you would find your free breakfast if you have Hyatt Globalist status. 🍳 Take a peak at their menu below!
Pete’s Surf City Grille was also a good option for a more casual lunch or dinner and we ordered our food to go and sat outside on the property with our lunch! This was also partly due to the fact that we had our dog with us and she wasn’t allowed in any of the restaurants or even on their outdoor dining areas (which was very surprising given that they are a dog friendly property right next to the Huntington Dog Beach).
The Surf City Grocers is another spot that we hit up every day! They have a great little convenience store inside and a coffee shop, so it’s the perfect stop on your way out for your day of adventuring. ☕️
During one of our stays, we also opted for the in-room dining (pictured above) which was really good! It was a perfect easy late night dinner in our room.
Rooms
The rooms at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach are well designed, spacious, clean and bright! We have loved our rooms here every time we stayed. Most often we book a standard 2 queen room and we have more than enough space for us and our daughter and our dog.
Dog friendly
We’re those people that take our dog on vacation every year. 🐾🏖️ And the Huntington Dog Beach is our favorite place to take her (even she loves points and miles 😉)! All dogs can roam around without a leash on the beach, so keep that in mind if you visit.
The Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach is less than a 5 minute drive down to the main parking lot for the dog beach, so it’s very convenient. You’ll also find lots of little dog bowls for water around the property, poop bag stations, and many grassy areas that you can walk them around.
We do notify the hotel ahead of time that we will be bringing a dog and they charge $175 for up to a 6 night stay. So while that is a big fee for a pet, we don’t mind since the rest of our stay is booked on points!
Around the area
Since I have been visiting this area since I was little, I have lots of my favorite spots that we visit when we go!
Huntington Beach is a quick 15 minute drive from Newport Beach and Balboa Island, which is a MUST for your trip! You’ll find a nice boardwalk, a long bike/walking path along the beach, and even a ferry that you can ride to get over to the island. There is a ton of shopping in the area, good food (Balboa Lily’s is our favorite diner spot!), and plenty of things to keep you busy.
Near the entrance to the Balboa Island Ferry, you’ll find the Balboa Fun Zone with an arcade, ferris wheel, and lots of other water activities! You could book a boat ride, rent bikes, and we’ve even rented jet skis which was super exciting and our kids loved it.
‼️And the most important stop of all….you have to get a Balboa Bar when you visit (pictured below). These ice cream treats are a staple on the island and you can pick your ice cream, your coating, and your topping. It’s amazing. Now, when you go, you will get your Baloba Bar from Sugar ‘N Spice. NOT Dad’s Original. Trust me on this one. Sugar ‘N Spice is the best, and I can say this very confidently after years of taste testing. 😉🍦
Final Thoughts
The Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach is my very favorite hotel in California if you’re looking to visit the beach! It’s fun for the whole family, even the furry family members, and it’s a beautiful hotel. Being able to book this property on points is a huge win and is the reason we are able to go back year after year. I highly recommend this location for your next summer trip! 🏖️☀️
